386 Special Car Tools Spindle True Rod Kit For the serious car builder & racer, you need a spindle checker for about half a dozen key reasons. It can tell you if your spindle is bent, if your spindle was machined untrue, which ball joints a spindle uses & more. As you can imagine, I use my often. These kits utilize mock ball joint spuds … with holes for a straight rod … that go into the upper & lower ball joint tapers. If the rod can go through the spuds on both ends, the ball joint tapers are lined up. If not, throw that wonky spindle away. Why? If the ball joint tapers do not line up, the spindle will not pivot smoothly. It will rise & fall when turning the steering wheel. Yes, some Mopar cars & Vipers come that way. That is what makes them so funky to drive.
